For Your Consternation

So we saw "For Your Consideration" last night. I am a fan of Christopher Guest but I think I would advise saving this for netflix. It is just so damn expensive to go to the movies anymore that I always expect them to be worth every penny and neither of us walked out raving about the film. I do love Parker Posey so very much and she was, as always, wonderful. In fact she sort of has my "dream Hollywood career," (she and Angie of course) which begs the question .... which actor's work life would you like? AND Anyone seen anything lately?

I do! Now I gotta get me a doe!

I was not sure if I had ever shared my brother's wedding pictures with all of you ... I thought that if Katie ever gets married she might want to steal an idea or two from them ...

Dave looks a little different back them but it was a long time ago. Who would have thought that a hunting themed wedding could turn out so lovely?

Why didn't you girls tell me?

I met a girl the other night and she told me about Bluefly.com.....why aren't my fashionistas keeping me apprised of these wonderful spots with great stuff?

I promise to honor, obey and watch AFV

I know that I have addressed Will's America's Funniest Home Video obsession before but he has had a flair up as of late. To try to recreate this you can go to this site:
http://abc.go.com/fsp/index.html?channel=AmericasFunniestHomeVideos
watch the people getting hurt in different ways and laugh so loud that the neighbors can hear you. Start crying and shaking your head no and choke out "I can't ... I can't"
I will be sitting in my office and hear things like, "Michelle! Come quick! This dog is break dancing!" and "You HAVE to see this one ... here, I'll rewind it"
I have now taken to reading the paper in the same room while he is watching this so I can "share" in his love for AFV (as he calls it)
I secretly recorded Will one night while he was watching this and sent it to Katie but perhaps we will be able to watch some episodes at Christmas b/c honestly ... I've never seen anything like this ...

I
I would just like to say how thrilled I am that it is Harper Collins who is publishing O.J. Simpson's new book "If I Did," and not Penguin ... I can just see someone walking in to IK's office saying, "Katie ... I have some good news and some bad news about your next author." =)

just one note about Thanksgiving

This is just a Thanksgiving update: Katie arrives Wed. and we all meet at Fuji's for sushi. Thanksgiving schedule: can we eat late on Thanksgiving Day? Rebos has a meeting and lunch from 12 to 2, and I promised I'd bring turkey and be there.

I will bring whatever is needed for our dinner.

Friday is open and so is Sat. Katie and I are going out to the lake one day. How would it be for W, M, K, S to go out and I can do my amends at the lake?

IK ... how was your weekend? Do you have pics to post? I need something to brighten this dreary cold day here in cosmopolitan T-town

the Marine Ball

This is our Katie's weekend to dress up....wonder if anyone will wear a dress like this? Can't wait to hear all about it. How is everyone else spending their weekend? Any exciting dog events to attend? I'm in a workshop tomorrow on Creating a Wisdom Culture....

Here is a picture of Will getting home last night from Canada ... I really like the new look he is sporting. It's so nice to have him home!
Does everyone realize that we are on the 469th post on this blog? I think the 500th post is cause for celebration.

RINO'S Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Announcing my favorite acronym in a long time.......thank you Slobo, as usual, you say it so susinctly.......and you're a credit to this family....in my humble opinion...

Just having a little moment here ....

I would like to take a moment out of this busy news day to say that our girl Angie might just be the most amazing woman ever. I love that other celebs are getting divorced, DUI etc etc and where do we find Ms. Jolie? Chatting with refugees in India. I like how she (in public) stays A-political so that all the focus on her causes. OK ... thank you, just needed to get that little Jolie moment out of my system ... back to the elections! =)

It's finally here!

So it's the big day everyone! We woke up early so we could vote together (so romantic!). Our personal favorite was the independent candidate named E.Z. Million, I was shocked that Will did not vote for him! While I am a bit worried for my main man Harold Ford Jr, I am feeling pretty confident that the Demos are going to sweep it. For the first time in my life I voted all demo and it felt pretty good! How has everyone's election day been?

Bewitched, bothered and bewildered or One Step Closer to the realization of a dream

For some time now I have wanted a Hairless Chinese Crested puppy. There was a dog show this weekend that we attended originally to look at the Standards who were without a doubt exquisite. Will mentioned that we should find the CC's so we hunted down a breeder who introduced me to one of her bitches. Well ... she had my at ruff! We went back the next day to see them compete and it was all over for me at least. Will seems cautious. Do they need sun screen on it the summer? yes. Do they need sweaters in the winter? yes. Might Attie and Champ think it is a rodent and try to hunt it? I am afraid so ... but look at these precious little babies ... here is a shot of a puppy and an adult ...

How was everyone's weekend? IK ... did you get to see any of the Marathon?

One lucid thought...

I don't know much about local or national politics any more. It has been very interesting not having TV or internet or newspaper delivery at home. I am relying on all of you to deliver the political news to me. Am I relying on the right sources? I certainly feel like I am getting representation from both parties, as well as a mention or two that borders on anarchist....not to mention, reactionary....

I feel more comfortable in the area of recognizing terrorists and their mode of transportation....I have my eye out for these guys....

double header

Saw both The Illusionist and Running with Scissors last night....a little "overload" was the result. Both good movies though. I thought it seemed like Jessica Biel was mis-cast as Sophie....she's such an all-american girl that it was hard for me to imagine her as a Austrian noblewoman.

Running with Scissors was another perfect film for Annette Benig....I hope she wins the Oscar this year.

First President You Voted For: Nobody I ever voted for became president.

politician from the past that you wished were running today: Teddy, FDR, Kennedy, and I'd like to see how Jefferson or Hamilton did things today. We are in desperate need of Goldwater, even Gingrich!

Favorite current Senator: Obama (He's got to cash in on his popularity)

Favorite current Congressmen: Pelosi: because she deserves some credit for winning the house back. (I'm saying this like it's a done deal) And hopefully she handles it like Newt.

If you were President for one day, what would you do? Instigate a Self-Sustainability Initiative that pushed for new renewable energy technologies in transport and power in general, that extended into building codes and zoning laws (hence, architecture).
Then, I'd tell Isreal to give half of their USaid to the Palestinians and install a water pipe plant there!
I think that before I got to the white house I'd have a laundry list of bills ready to be signed (if congress could only work that fast):
privatise Social Security (so our generation and the following ones have some money);
Gay rights,
legalize drugs, except set up the anti steroid agency,
gun control,
cut the military budget in half,
then give half of the half to education (making sure 75% goes to teachers, schools and students rather than the bureaucrats),so really, reduce the Military by 75%,
give the soldiers a raise!
Get rid of the star wars budget (give it to NASA),
invest in super trains (Planes polute way too much, plus Megan hates them)
Bolster Mexico's economy with infrastructure investment (include them in the self-sustainability initiative)
Get religion out of school and put a memorial for Darwin on the mall
Cut the price of college tuition to a price afordable by those working parttime minimum wag jobs. (A little economics would be needed here)
Install a program for apprenticeship to companies (everything from welding/machining to brokeraging and accounting and lab work too) (Kinda like France's mandatory youth service.) (Ours wouldn't be mandatory, only a good oppurtunity for those who, at 18, don't know which way to go.)
Correct the tax code! Only tax business and capital gains. But less. (I'd need a calculator and an economist who knows the numbers)
Reduce the budget
National ID card
Get rid of military bases abroad!
PAy the United Nations
Fund the African Coalitions and help in COngo, Somalia, Darfur, Ethiopia/Eritrea, Northern Kenya, Nigeria... etc.
Get rid of AIDS.
Limit Campaign spending to the amount a worker getting page Minimum wage could afford. No Soft Donations and special interest money (Even if it is against our right to freedom of speech) ... ban tv commercials and install a national channel for debate.

Oh, I forgot: 1 day? With Congress?... hmm, I'd shake some hands. Mention a few ideas, and listen to excuses.

Favorite Washington Monument: Lincoln

If you were a lobbyist, which issues would you like to lobby for? I'd lobby for the death of lobbyists!

Politically appointed job you would like to have? Secretary of State

Favorite First Lady: Elenor Roosevelt

What would you rather see the billions being spent in Iraq spent on? Education, Middleast conference, pipe plant in Iraq, electricity in Iraq. infrastructure building in Afghanistan... investigation/audit of Haliburton and KBR and other contractors to see what we got for our money.

I am crossing my fingers that Democrats take the Senate next Tuesday.

Political Me!!

First President You Voted For: Hubert Humphrey (whoops....did he have to win?.) Then I guess it was Carter.

politician from the past that you wished were running today: FDR

Favorite current Congressmen:I don't have a favorite congressman

If you were President for one day, what would you do? 6:00: greet Megan, Jesse, Will & Michelle, Nick, Brent, Joey who will spend the day with me---shadowing the president; 7:00: yoga; 8:00: staff meeting; 9:00: breakfast with Bill Gates & Warren Buffet; 10:00: party planning: State Dinner for Prince Charles and Lady Camilla; 12:00 lunch with Brad and Angelina; 1:00: Meeting with Children's Defense Fund Ex. Dir. 2:00: nap; 3:00: take a walk around the Rose Garden; 3:30: meeting with Joint Chiefs; 3:45: take helicopter to Dulles and AirForce 1 to NYC; 5:00: dinner with Katie; 7:00: fly back to Wash. D.C.; 8:00: AA meeting; 9:30: cookies and milk; 10:00 news; 11:00: bed: sleep like a baby knowing I am in charge of the world.

Favorite Washington Monument: Albert Einstein

If you were a lobbyist, which issues would you like to lobby for?
education, cancer research, child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, environment,

Politically appointed job you would like to have? Ambassador to France (for me it would be a very effective French immersion program) or Under-Secretary Sec. of the Treasury: Customs Division

Favorite First Lady: Abigail Adams-she saved the White House; Jackie Kennedy-she started a trend in dressing that I still admire

What would you rather see the billions being spent in Iraq spent on? education, child abuse prevention, alcohol and drug abuse prevention. Those problems solved would empty our prisons.

I am crossing my fingers that Deborah Shallcross wins next Tuesday.

First President You Voted For: 1992, George Herbert Walker Bush

politician from the past that you wished were running today: Barry Goldwater

Favorite current Senator: Barack Obama

Favorite current Congressmen: Harold Ford Jr.

If you were President for one day, what would you do? Make it legal for gays to marry, set it in stone that the constitution could not be messed with by those who do not like what it says, ensure that abortion would continue to be legal in the US, make Will my Secretary of State.

Favorite Washington Monument: Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial (you can probably figure out why)

If you were a lobbyist, which issues would you like to lobby for? The right for gays to marry, Planned Parenthood and The Animal Legal Defense Fund

Politically appointed job you would like to have? National Endowment for the Arts or the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Favorite First Lady: Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, Claudia"Lady Bird" Johnson and Pat Nixon (b/c you know .... she doesn't have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat ... and that's just sort of sad)

What would you rather see the billions being spent in Iraq spent on? Darfur, international relations, education, the arts, just about anything really ...

I am crossing my fingers that Harold Ford Jr. wins next Tuesday.
