I would like to go down as saying I am sympathetic to the Palestinian plight. I think most people are. I do think that 1 billion to the PA needs to be given in the form of infrastructural improvement, employing only Palestinian contractors and personnel. I think the same is true for Iraq. I think these situations are quagmires because they are physically quagmires, with poor conditions. Infrastructure is the area to invest and employ. Help them work and allow them to work for an improved country... As for Hamas, I have to believe many Palestinians voted for them because of Fada. Standard procedure in a Democracy... at least when the districts are fair and balanced and not gerrymandered... it seems the elections in Palestine are more fair.
As for Bush, I thought he struck cords of balance, but he's got a long ways to go to make it reality. I'm speaking of the energy promises primarily. He suggests a 75% reduction in the use of Petroleum by 2026. Or was that a 75% reduction in the average yearly increase? It was worded funny. I forget now what he said, but the fact that he said, "We're going to strive to push beyond a petroleum based economy was positive in my book... but not enough." He didn't mention anything about GM and Ford in reference to this topic.
I thought it was very funny when it came to the budget and he explained that with continued budget cuts they might have the budget deficit cut in half by 2009. I noticed people laughing, and then a few republicans stood up like this was good. He just stated it like it was a good thing.
I approve of his initiative for a competitive America, but I don't know if he can move the juggernaut of the government quickly enough to make us competitive with India and China. They will have cheaper labor for decades (approximately 6.7 decades). His verbiage on this topic was needed.
Overall, it does seem like he presented issues more clearly, and laying them bare rather than spinning... I have to say the war in Iraq was still spun mostly.
He didn't mention his pics for the Oscars.
