... looking at boxing in a whole new light

I like that idea, Sue, that the aggressiveness of Ennis came from the anger he felt over his feelings for Jack and then when Jack made an advance he realized that he was going to be able to act on it and open himself up. That can be scary so he acted out by punching him ... I must say that I felt the love scenes were very well acted and believable due to the roughness. I had a English Lit prof who said that the physical playfulness between men was an attempt by them to be closer ... like it's a mans version of affection. Personally, I look to nature for the answer on why men play like that ... in packs of animals we always see a playfulness between the males that is due to testosterone ... always trying to be alpha. If the prof is right then Will and James boxing takes on a sweetness quality doesn't it .... ahhhhhhh? (ok Will ... that is my last "will is gay" joke ... I promise)
